Syria Film Festival
Following a three year old tradition of Toronto hosting the Syria film Festival (SYFF), Najda Now in conjunction with Laurier’s International Students Overcoming War (ISOW) and MtSpace are bringing the program to Kitchener this November, with a variety of challenging movies on the menu.
As complex as the Syrian crisis, the program will include movies that feature stories of fear, love, sympathy and everyday small victories and which have appealed to many critics worldwide, among others:
1- Zeina Erhaim’s “Syria’s Rebellious Women”: a series of portraits of women who have fought for freedom, each in their own way, in Syria and in the Syrian diaspora.
2- “One day in Aleppo” a short by Ali Alibrahim: the story of a group of children living in Aleppo who start painting the walls of their martyred city as a final act of protest as well as resistance.
3- “The Island of all together”: the stories of love and co-existence that took place on the Greek Island of Lesbos between Syrian refugees and Tourists, as featured by “Marieke van der Velden & Philip Brink”.
To discover these works of art and many others, please be with us from 6 PM to 8 Pm on November 17, 18 and 19 at Lazaridis Hall, Wilfrid Laurier University (64 University Avenue West, Lazaridis Hall 4001, Waterloo, ON N2L 3C7).
