Buy Paintings For Earthquake Aid
On February 6, a series of 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria, leaving in their wake devastating destruction and over 47,000 people dead and millions homeless. As the world’s governments and largest aid organizations do their best to help those affected by the earthquake, people in Northern Syria are facing increased barriers to aid. The region is home to millions of people displaced by the civil war, who already depended on aid to survive. Due to structural damage to aid corridors, international diplomacy issues, and the ongoing Syrian civil war, people in Northern Syria are now facing freezing temperatures, a lack of shelter, and scarcity of food, water, and fuel.
Artist Nehad Abd Alkader has generously donated four paintings to contribute to Levant’s aid efforts in the region. The full proceeds of all the paintings purchased will go to Levant Canada’s volunteers in Northern Syria, who are working hard to acquire and distribute the most urgently needed supplies.

Nehad is a Kurdish artist from Syria. His work ranges from simple portraits to stunning abstracts, representing his emotions and memories in splashes of brilliant colours. Some paintings depict bomber aircraft, guns, and explosions, making statements about war to evoke feelings of violence and terror, while others portray beautiful memories of his childhood home and the stories his grandmother told him when he was young. As he works hard to establish his artistic career here in Canada, Nehad has continued painting at home, filling his family’s apartment with his vibrant, impressionistic canvasses.
